Boksburg is a town with a rich mining heritage and a wide array of amenities, including schools, shopping centres and more. Learn more about Boksburg here.

Boksburg falls under the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, the local government of Ekurhuleni encompasses the surrounding towns of Benoni, Springs, Germiston, Brakpan, Alberton, Kempton Park and Bedfordview to mention a few.

Boksburg was originally laid out in 1887 and served the surrounding gold mining operations but it quickly flourished into one of the commercial hubs of the East Rand. It now interacts and compliments other commercial industrial nodes like Knights, Isando, Jet Park, Wadeville, Meadowdale, Steeldale to mention a few

While this mining town was established on the prospecting of gold there are now so many other alternatives available to its occupants including upmarket shopping malls, boutique shops, eateries, sports & recreation parks and other entertainment venues. The East Rand Mall together with the East Rand Galleria house a variety of big brands as well as boutique retail stores. In addition to this easy acces to the K90 Centre (with Virgin Active) and the East Rand Value Mall housing Sportmans Warehouse, Baby City, MacDonalds, Turn 'N Tender will take care of all your retail therapy. Naturally all the suburb house smaller strip malls and shopping centres to take care of your daily needs. Naturally there many other strip malls and local shopping centres serving the local suburbs as well.

In terms of religion Boksburg caters for all denominations with some Churches ageing in at over 100 years old.

All these towns have a rich mining heritage and Boksburg in particular continues to provide the mining and industrial segments of the country with cutting edge technology with Anderbolt in particular being of great importance.

Located on the Eastern side of Johannesburg it has very easy access to the N12 and N17 highways and is a stone’s throw away from the OR Tambo International Airport, Africa’s largest and busiest airport and handling 19 million users annually and the recently developed Gautrain network provides an easy drive through to Pretoria and the Sandton and Rosebank precincts.

In addition to this OR Tambo International Airport handles 83% of all air cargo movements and therefore plays a vital economic role for South Africa, Gauteng and Ekurhuleni in particular.

Access to both technical & academic government (Parkrand Primary, Parkdene Primary, Freeway Park, Baanbreker Laerskool, Sunward Park High, Voortrekker Hoerskool, EG Jansen, Oosterligh Hoerskool to name a few) and private schooling (Christian Brother College and Sanit Dominics) as well as college’s means that everything is a stone throw away.

The Boksburg City Stadium has recently had a makeover boasting a new tartan track for international events, the stadium hosts football, athletics, baseball, the internationally recognised 5km Park Run and has recently with the help of the local community finished building a competitive Mountain Bike track

With the plans in place to develop the aerotropolis in Ekurhuleni Boksburg is fast becoming the premier destination for enterprises serving the airport and its secondary activities while the area develops into a multimodal “airport city”.

The fast growing suburban areas bears testament to the future development plans of the city.

Pricing in the majority of the suburbs remains affordable and hold great value for money.

The aerotropalis has behind it a 30 year master plan and will pave the way to for a socio-economic impact projected at R8.1-billion per year.

The future development of the town remains positive and the local government is focussed on change complimented by challenges, all this is evident by developments taking place along Rondebult Road in the south and additional private schooling and housing developments in the north.
